What is Maren FASTY?

Maren FASTY is a remote-controlled and optionally self-propelled water rescue drone or rescue buoy designed for professional water rescue operations. The system was developed to quickly reach people in lakes, rivers, coastal areas, harbors, flood zones, or open waters and provide them with a safe flotation device.

FASTY is not a traditional lifebuoy that needs to be thrown, but rather a motorized water rescue vehicle. The rescue buoy is deployed into the water or dropped from a suitable height and then steered toward the person in distress via remote control. There, the person can hold on and be brought to a safer area by FASTY.

The system supports rescue personnel especially when entering the water directly would be too dangerous, too slow, or tactically disadvantageous. This can significantly reduce the time to first aid while simultaneously lowering the risk to rescuers.

What is Maren FASTY used for?

Maren FASTY is used for the rapid rescue of people in danger in the water. The water rescue drone can reach people in distress or who are exhausted, provide them with buoyancy, and transport them toward the shore, a boat, a dock, or a rescue team.

FASTY is particularly valuable in situations where traditional rescue methods reach their limits. A lifebuoy must be thrown with precision and can only reach a limited distance. A lifeguard needs time to reach the person and exposes themselves to danger from currents, cold, waves, or exhaustion. A boat cannot always get close enough to the person in distress.

FASTY fills this gap: The device can launch quickly, be precisely controlled, and stabilize the person early on while further rescue measures are prepared. Typical tasks for FASTY include:

How does Maren FASTY work?

FASTY is equipped with two powerful electric motors and is controlled via a remote control. The rescue buoy actively moves across the water’s surface toward the person in distress. Thanks to its shape, padding, and handholds, the person can hold on to FASTY.

The system is designed for rapid deployment. Rescue personnel launch FASTY into the water at the scene, steer the device toward the person, and then guide it back toward the rescue team or a safe exit point. If necessary, FASTY can also transport equipment or assist divers.

Depending on the configuration, additional features such as voice transmission, camera, lighting, autopilot, GPS tracking, a holding function, or automatic activation upon contact with water can be integrated. Typical operation sequence:

Remove FASTY from the transport container
Turn on the device and activate the remote control
Place FASTY in the water or launch it
Steer the rescue buoy toward the person in distress
Instruct the person to hold on
Guide FASTY back toward the shore, boat, or rescue team
Take the person over and provide medical care
Retrieve the device, inspect it, and prepare it for the next operation

What models and variants are available?

Maren FASTY Water Rescue Drone
The main variant is the Maren FASTY Water Rescue Drone. It is a fast, robust, and motorized rescue robot designed for professional water rescue operations. The system is built to withstand demanding conditions and can be used in calm waters, in waves, in slow-moving rivers, and in challenging operational situations. FASTY reaches speeds of up to 15 km/h, has a range of up to 800 meters, and can operate for up to 60 minutes. The maximum load capacity is up to 200 kg, allowing it to assist up to two people depending on the situation.
FASTY with Waterproof Remote Control
Standard control is via a robust remote control. This allows FASTY to be steered precisely across the water. The remote control provides important information such as signal quality and battery level, enabling emergency responders to monitor the system’s status during the rescue. This version is particularly suitable for fire departments, lifeguards, water rescue services, port operators, hotels, resorts, ships, and organizations that require a quick-deployment, intuitive solution.
FASTY with Visual Communication
Optionally, FASTY can be equipped with a camera and communication system. This allows the rescue team to receive live images, better assess the situation, and communicate with the person in the water. This feature is particularly helpful in conditions of poor visibility, at night, over long distances, in complex water areas, or during operations where the person needs to be reassured and guided.
FASTY with Autopilot and GPS
For advanced operations, FASTY can be supplemented with GPS functions, autopilot, a hold function, or a return function. A return function can guide the device back to the starting point. A hold function can help maintain position in open water, even in currents or waves. These functions are particularly of interest to professional organizations that wish to use FASTY in more complex situations, over longer distances, or during recurring operations.
FASTY as a Transport and Support Platform
In addition to rescuing people, FASTY can also transport small equipment, flotation devices, medical supplies, or other operational resources across water. This makes the system suitable as a flexible platform for divers, boats, platforms, flood zones, or hard-to-reach shoreline areas.

FASTY can reach people in danger much faster than many traditional rescue devices. The motorized rescue buoy travels directly to the person and immediately provides a floating support.
