AquaEye PRO – Smart sonar technology for quickly locating people in the water

AquaEye PRO – What is it?

AquaEye is a portable, handheld sonar device designed for water rescue. It was developed for fire departments, water rescue services, lifeguards, police, technical rescue organizations, and search and rescue teams. The system uses sonar technology and artificial intelligence to detect human bodies underwater and provide rescue personnel with rapid situational awareness.

AquaEye is not a traditional fishing echo sounder, but rather a specialized search and rescue sonar. It was designed for professional operations where time, safety, and precise situational awareness are critical. The device can be held in the water from the shore, a boat, a dock, or other operational positions and scans the underwater area for potential victims.

AquaEye PRO rescue sonar for professional water rescue operations, helping firefighters, lifeguards and emergency responders detect people underwater faster in lakes, rivers, harbors and flooded areas.

What is AquaEye used for?

AquaEye is designed to make water rescue operations faster, safer, and more efficient. It allows rescue teams to quickly scan large bodies of water and identify potential victims.

The key benefit is that rescue divers and emergency personnel can be deployed more effectively. Instead of searching an area blindly or using only traditional search patterns, AquaEye can provide information on the direction, distance, and approximate depth of a potential target. This allows incident commanders to decide more quickly where divers, boats, or other rescue resources should be deployed.

AquaEye can be used in both emergency rescue operations and recovery operations. It does not replace professional operational planning, divers, or training, but serves as a powerful tool for situational assessment and target search.

How does AquaEye work?

AquaEye sends sonar pulses into the water. These sound waves travel underwater and are reflected by objects, obstacles, or bodies. The device receives the echoes and analyzes them using AI-powered target detection.

If the system detects an echo that could correspond to a human body, that target is highlighted on the display. The display assists emergency responders with information such as direction, distance, and depth. Additionally, an EchoMap view is available, which provides a visual representation of the sonar environment. The typical procedure during an operation:

  1. Turn on the device
  2. Hold AquaEye in the water at the desired search position
  3. Select the scan area
  4. Perform a sonar scan
  5. Interpret the AI analysis and display
  6. Guide rescue personnel directly to the potential target

What models of AquaEye Pro are available?

AquaEye Pro is the current professional model. It is a handheld sonar search device with AI-powered target detection and was specifically designed for use by professional water rescue teams. Key features of AquaEye Pro:

  • AI-powered detection of human bodies underwater
  • Dual-frequency sonar for improved target detection
  • Selectable search areas
  • Display of direction, distance, and depth of potential targets
  • Combined EchoMap and target display
  • Automatic saving of scans
  • Wireless data export
  • Waterproof, buoyant, and shock-resistant
  • Suitable for demanding operating conditions
  • Compact, portable design
  • Long battery life for mobile operations

AquaEye Pro is designed for organizations that regularly conduct water rescue, search, or recovery operations and require a robust, documentation-capable device for professional missions.

Typical Applications

  • Drowning incidents in lakes and rivers
If a person is missing after a drowning incident, AquaEye can help quickly narrow down the search area. This can save valuable time, especially in murky water, poor visibility, or unclear situations.
  • Operations at harbors, docks, and bridges
In areas with many obstacles, walls, boats, piers, or rocky edges, traditional search methods are often difficult. AquaEye can be hand-held and used flexibly at various locations.
  • Search for missing persons following boat or kayak accidents
In cases of capsizing, recreational boat accidents, or accidents involving stand-up paddlers, AquaEye can be deployed to systematically search the area around the last known position.
  • Water rescue following natural disasters
After floods, heavy rainfall events, or dam breaches, bodies of water and flooded areas can be particularly dangerous. AquaEye can help reduce risks for rescue personnel by narrowing down search areas more quickly.
  • Searching in murky or low-visibility water
The system is particularly suitable for bodies of water where visual contact is barely possible. These include murky lakes, rivers, canals, harbor basins, or polluted incident sites.
  • Recovery operations
Not every operation is an acute rescue situation. AquaEye can also assist in the recovery of missing persons by narrowing down search areas and allowing dive teams to work more effectively.

Benefits for Emergency Response Organizations

AquaEye offers emergency response organizations several practical benefits. The most important benefit is the time saved: rescue personnel can quickly scan large bodies of water and receive indications of potential targets. This allows divers, boats, and other personnel to be deployed in a more targeted manner.

Another benefit is team safety. Water rescue operations are often dangerous, especially in the presence of currents, cold water, poor visibility, debris, murky water, or at night. When AquaEye narrows down the search area, rescue personnel are less likely to enter the water without specific target information.

The device is also helpful from an organizational standpoint. AquaEye Pro can save scans and provide data later for debriefings, mission documentation, or training. This is particularly valuable for fire departments, water rescue services, and authorities that want to evaluate operations and improve procedures.

Who is AquaEye designed for?

AquaEye is designed for professional and semi-professional organizations responsible for water rescue or search and rescue operations. These include:

  • Fire departments
  • Water rescue organizations
  • Lifeguards and lifeguard teams
  • Police and security agencies
  • Technical rescue services
  • Search and rescue teams
  • Disaster response
  • Operators of lakes, harbors, reservoirs, or large recreational water areas
  • Water rescue training centers

The device should be operated by trained personnel to ensure that search results are interpreted correctly and integrated safely into the operational process.
